This position is with Child and Youth Services at the US Army Garrison, Miami. Schedule is regular part time 4-6 hours per day between the hours of 7:30am and 4:30pm Monday-Friday. This is a Regular Part-Time position with a minimum work week of 20 hours. Eligible for leave accrual and benefits. Duties

Oversee installation CYS issues involving public schools and their relationship to the local military community. Spearhead the integration of military children into the local school system. Intermediary between and advocate for parents/youth and school administrators. Assesses needs and serves as the focal point for gathering/disseminating information. CYS staff to successfully integrate CYS initiatives (technology labs, homework centers, Youth Sponsorship, and education transition centers) with school resources to meet the needs of constituents. Implements installation Partnerships in Education (PIE) initiatives to foster partnerships between the military community, schools, and the local community. Provides input to the YESS marketing plan and command information materials on local schools, school activities, intervention programs, legislation impacting schools, Serves as a member of the Installation Child and Youth Evaluation Team to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and CYS baseline standards. Ensures program contributes to achieving and maintaining DoD certification..

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
  • Meet qualification/eligibility/physical/background requirements for this position.
  • Must have current health assessment which documents good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and immunizations IAW current Army and DoD policy to include annual influenza vaccinations.
  • A one year probationary period may be required (either initially or upon conversion, if applicable).
  • Successful completion of annual training requirements within the prescribed time frame and demonstrated on the job competence is required.
  • May be subject to an irregular hours, evening and or weekends.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) Check.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation. The Crime Control Act must be successfully completed and maintained.
  • Successful completion of Foundation and Annual CYS Management Training is required.
  • Travel to on and off post locations required.

Qualifications

Successful completion of a 4 year college or university degree with a major course of study/substantial course work which directly relates to a CYS field: early childhood / elementary / secondary / special education, child / youth development, psychology, youth program administration or a closely related field such as social work, home economics, physical education or related behavioral sciences. OR A combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major in a subject matter field (24 semester hours) appropriate to the position (see above), plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. In addition, all candidates must possess: 1. Minimum twenty-four (24) months work experience in a child/youth or a public school child/youth program. 2. Program administration experience in child and youth programs. 3. The ability to plan and organize work, analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data and recognize solutions. 4. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English. 5. The physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, stoop and stand on a routine basis. Highly Preferred candidates will submit resumes that reflect ALL of the following and may be sent first for consideration. 2 years of experience working as a School Liaison Officer for any military service 2 years of experience teaching in the Miami Dade, Broward or Florida schools or other school district. Experience developing or implementing the 504 or individual education plans preferred. Experience teaching in the public school system.
