About the Position: This position is located at Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Liberty, NC. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. A relocation incentive MAY be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.

Duties

Provide direct care to patients and families; educating patients and families in the prevention or resolution of illness, treating disease, injury and disability. Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to plan, implement, evaluate patient care, resolve issues related to patient care, communication, policies and resources. Perform independent nursing assessments, including physical examination as required and interpretation of laboratory reports to assess the impact of the surgical procedure upon the patient. Administer a variety of rapid-acting, potent medications by direct intravenous and other routes, according to unit policies, procedures, and protocols. Perform data collection, compiles data, creates, accesses, updates, and maintains security of computer databases concerning care delivered to facilitate patient outcomes. Generate statistical reports regarding access to and outcome of care provided for the purposes of process improvement and ensuring optimal patient outcomes and appropriate resource utilization. Design and evaluate educational programs for patients, families, and groups and assess the appropriateness of patient education materials to include websites, teaching materials, and general media. Serve as a resource person to a wide variety of professional health colleagues regarding nursing practice.

• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 30 pounds is required.
• May be required to obtain and maintain certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
• May be required to obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• Applicants must be able to fulfill non-privileged professional credential requirements.
• This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).

Basic Requirement for Advance Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner/Education): Degree: A graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the specialty of the position to be filled. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). RN Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Advanced Practice Nursing Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in a specialized area of nursing practice from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Foreign Degree: For individuals with a degree from a Foreign Nursing School, official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes providing direct patient care, ordering or interpreting lab results, performing physical examinations, and providing patient education. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
