You will serve as a HEARING CONSERVATION TECHNICIAN in the Directorate of Public Health of NMRTC JACKSONVILLE FL. This announcement uses the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD / Modified Direct Hire Authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will conduct baseline and monitoring hearing tests on personnel exposed to hazardous noise. You will fit and dispense hearing protective devices for personnel exposed to hazardous noise. You will conduct daily performance checks on audiometric equipment to ensure normal operation. You will assist the Senior Hearing Conservation Technician and/or the operational audiologist on all phases of the Hearing Conservation Program. You will assist Occupational Medicine Department with general occupational health technician duties when personnel shortages occurs.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • A pre-employment physical is required.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • Current DOEHRS-HC hearing conservation technician Certification.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: . Conducting baseline and monitoring hearing tests on personnel exposed to hazardous noise; Fitting and dispensing hearing protective devices to personnel; Performing otoscopic examinations to determine the presence or absence of obstructions or abnormalities of the ear canal and ear drum prior to the fitting procedure; Conducting daily performance checks on audiometric equipment to ensure normal operation; Performing daily biological calibration checks to meet the calibration requirements of the Hearing Conservation Program Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management web site: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0600/health-aid-and-technician-series-0640/. Education

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position:

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. (Your transcripts must be attached.)

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
