This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Obtains and records patient’s ophthalmic complaints and symptoms on clinic record where it is readily available to the doctor.
Records visual acuity, current lens prescription, past medical history, past ophthalmic history, family medical history, allergy history, and additional medical information as appropriate.
Triages patient complaints, directing urgent or emergent cases to the physician’s attention.
Performs non-contact and applanation tonometry as required.
Perform complete field day procedures to include, but not limited to, wiping down surfaces with anti-bacterial cleaners, wet vacuuming surgical suite floors, cleaning glass/mirrored surfaces, and low/high dusting.
Perform a variety of clinical/administrative duties using computer hardware/software.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience such as: Obtaining and recording ophthalmic symptoms, medical history, and triaging patient complaints; scheduling appointments, checking in patients, and preparing reports and documentation, assembling and maintaining patient's record; Knowledge and application of ophthalmic administrative duties using automated systems; and using universal precautions.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Ophthalmology or Optometry.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
