The position is located in the Division of Nursing Services department of the Phoenix Indian Medical Center, in Phoenix, Arizona. PIMC serves as a regional referral center for other Phoenix Area IHS Service Units. The purpose of the position is to provide direction and leadership for the nursing staff and for planning and arranging the delivery of hospital services in order to maintain continuity of comprehensive patient care during the tour of duty. This is a Part-Time Permanent position.

Duties

Ensures care is provided according to age specific guidelines, from the neonate to the geriatric patient, and that care is delivered in a culturally sensitive manner. Participates in reviewing and evaluating levels of nursing work performance for conformance with hospital protocols of care. Responsible for giving support, direction, and leadership to all nursing staff so that optimum patient care is provided in a safe and timely manner. Coordinates services with all ancillary services in the house. Demonstrates equitable treatment employees by careful documentation of due process used in performance counseling or disciplinary actions, leave granting authority in the absence of the First Line Supervisor. Incumbent is responsible for knowing hospital and nursing service policies and procedures, facility mission, vision and values to implement them in a safe and timely manner.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this 0610 occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements, OR Completed a degree from Foreign Nursing School and have an Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools. Licensure: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:GS-0610-11:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Assess, plan, implement, direct and evaluate the care of patients in a hospital facility setting; prepare work performance plans, coordinates patient care and support activities to ensure smooth hospital operation for admissions, discharges, and transfers; collaborates with leadership to assure compliance with Joint Commission, Centers of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), etc. OR Completed a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.. (Must provide evidence with your application documents if qualifying using this option). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
