About the Position: As the Administrative Support Assistant, the incumbent is responsible for the implementation and management under the guidance of the Division Administrative Officer on all administrative activities for the Branch.

Duties

Duties and responsibilities will vary depending on the level of the position, however you will be trained to develop into a full performance GS-06. Various duties may include: Perform various administrative tasks including timekeeping, inventory/supply management, purchase orders, travel requests. Coordinate personnel requirements in conjunction with the Administrative Officer to include recruitment, training, disciplinary actions, awards and employee benefits. Ensure project and office records are maintained in accordance with the regulation. Assist in gathering a variety of data needed in the formulation, execution and presentation of budget requests.

The duties of this position lead to the full performance level of GS-06. Incumbent may be appointed to the GS-05 or GS-06. Promotions are not automatic. If selected at one of the lower grades incumbent may be non-competitively promoted to the next higher grade upon (1) meeting all regulatory requirements; (2) certification by the supervisor of successful performance; (3) completion of all training requirements; and (4) the availability of work at the next higher grade level. Proficiency Required: Requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors. Minimum Qualifications for the GS-05: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes maintaining records or files and using computer software to produce correspondence or other documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04). Minimum Qualifications for the GS-06: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes administering general office work to include answering telephones, communicating through correspondence, and maintaining records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as business administration, public administration, organization and management, or a related discipline to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
