The primary purpose of this position is to inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, align, modify, reassemble, calibrate, maintain, and rebuild integrated electronic systems, where the output of a number of sensor subsystems is integrated into a logic subsystem and the resultant used to modify the operation of the total multi-system.

Duties

- Installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, test, troubleshoots, repairs, rebuilds, aligns, and calibrates integrated airborne electronics systems and advanced aircraft avionics integrated systems components such as fuel and engine management, communication, cargo delivery, flight control, and navigation systems. - Sets up and operate, software controlled automated test equipment to run established programs in various test modes to test and troubleshoot integrated systems. - Uses and maintains hand and power tools, precision measurement tools, and test equipment, such as O-scopes, pulse generators, signal generators, audio generators, power supplies, resistance decades, electrostatic field meters, digital/analog multimeters, precision measurement tools and test equipment, electronic control test set, circuitry test set, ESD meter, VOM meters, micrometers, torque wrenches, soldering irons,, logic analyzers, resistivity meter, and other trade tools and equipment. - Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulation1 and maintains a safe and clean work environment. - Maintains inspections and maintenance records. Trains lesser skilled workers.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned Wil! be required to work uncommon tours of duty, overtime., and perform standby/on-call duties. Will be subject to recall due to contingencies or emergencies.
  • Required to fly in military and commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty (TDY) assignments.
  • Required to work at various locations within the group and base.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Must provide proper safeguard for classified or sensitive data, materials, and systems.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain civilian and military driver's license.
  • Requires a high degree of manual dexterity, eye to hand coordination, prolonged standing, walking. and normal color vision.
  • Will be required to support other units in performing on or off equipment maintenance.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600, Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of electronic theories and practices of one or more complex integrated systems such as cargo control, night navigation, or automatic landing control systems; of integrated electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems; of such applications as radar, digital or analog computers, digital display devices, and of the technology and practices which integrate these components into a total functional system; and of mathematics including algebra and basic trigonometric functions to adapt standard function to the specific requirements of the integrated systems. 2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Skill in the set up and operation of computer controlled a1.1tomated test equipment (ATE) and test stands, oscilloscopes (dual trace, storage, digitized), spectrum, network and distortion analyzers, frequency counters, and signal generators; in interpreting complex drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete integrated systems to recognize the function and interconnections of components, assemblies, subassemblies, and connecting cable harness; and in troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining electronic integrated systems where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of a large number of circuits and functions, and the interaction of subsystems which create malfunctions. 4. Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, soldering irons, and micro soldering units. 5. Ability to follow drawings for integrated electronic systems; to trace the effect of a change in one subsystem to other integrated subsystems and determine which controls and devices must be change or adjusted to compensate; and to repair, align, and adjust major integrated Electonic systems such as navigation systems, and automatic flight control, or fuel control systems. 6. Ability to use computer terminals to maintain records and document actions. Physical Effort: Light to moderate physical exertion is required in lifting and carrying items weighing from 10 to 40 pounds, and occasional objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods of time on concrete or composition floors. Working Conditions: Employee typically works in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes performed in aircraft, sometimes outside in inclement weather. Exposed to the possibility of electric shock, bums from electrical or Rf energy or hot solder, md cuts md bruises. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
