You will serve as a TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT (FREIGHT) within NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR JACKSONVILLE.

Duties
You will be responsible for making arrangements for the shipment and delivery of freight for all NAS departments, tenant activities, and visiting squadrons.
You will select appropriate modes of shipment based on the needs of the customers and evaluation of justification.
You will coordinate work efforts with other parts of the activity to develop specialized packing, loading, handling methods, practices and procedures for shipments requiring special protection.
You will be required to make technically accurate decisions and provide solutions for shipments of explosives, hazardous material, classified material, high priority, high value, live animals, and other shipments of a complicated nature.
You will ensure completion of Government Bill of Lading (GBL) and Commercial Bill of Lading.
You will provide advice and guidance regarding the availability and capacity of carrier service, safety and protection of cargo, freight rates, methods, and procedures common to the procurement of transportation services.

- This position is considered a "Key." This entails continued performance of duties and responsibilities during periods of national emergencies and/or mobilization. Incumbent may be required to be removed from military recall status if applicable.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying technical knowledge of transportation regulations, methods, and practices to perform a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard transportation support assignments, including resolving a wide range of problems. Examples of specialized experience include: 1) Classifying materials into appropriate categories, identifying the need for special packing, loading, or handling, and coordinating arrangements for these needs with other activity personnel as well as with carriers; 2) Preparing complete instructions for materials being shipped, including specialized shipments such as oversized, heavy haul, extremely fragile, and hazardous materials; 3) Determining the most cost effective mode of transportation; 4) Arranging for complete routings to handle shipments with urgent delivery dates or shipments to isolated origin or destination points that cannot be transported through normal channels; and 5) Utilizing automated information systems to input a range of standard information or track shipments.

Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
Successful completion of one full year of graduate level education that is directly related to the position being filled.
OR
A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
