About the Position: This position is located at Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital.

Duties

Plan weekly/monthly work schedules for subordinates. Ensure subordinates adheres to safety and security practices. Adjust plans, assignments and methods as necessary to accomplish the work as effectively and economically as feasible. Investigate work-related problems to identify causes and implement corrective action. Instruct subordinates in new procedures. Determine how many assignments can be done concurrently or delayed based on the number and types of employees needed, considering skills, personnel, materials, and equipment available and required. Assure that material is ordered and delivered to work sites so as not to delay work.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds may be required.
  • This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
  • This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Cook Supervisor ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common activities including cooking, preparing food, following recipes, and making adjustments for serving sizes. I am skilled in scheduling work assignments; prescribing deadlines and work sequences for individual workers; counseling employee on performance; planning, directing, coordinating and monitoring all phases of food production in a hospital setting. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.Ability To Lead or SuperviseAbility To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentDexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean and in order) Cooks at this grade level perform work requiring continual standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing and pulling, and bending. They frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) unassisted, and occasionally lift or move objects weighing over 18 kilograms (40 pounds) with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. The work is performed in kitchen areas which are well lighted but are often hot and noisy. The cooks are exposed to steam, fumes, and odors from cooking and to extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units. There is danger of slipping on wet floors that have been recently mopped or where food has been spilled. They are subject to possible cuts from knives and burns from steam, hot foods, stoves, and hot grease and water.
