The purpose of this position is to provide coding functions in the Inpatient Units to promote provider/patient continuity, accurate data, statistic information that enables the optimization of reimbursements. This position works in a hybrid medical record environment, alternating between abstracting and coding pertinent medical data from the medical records into the Electronic Health Record. This position is located in the Medical Records Department, Chinle Service Unit, Chinle, Arizona.
Duties
Performs comprehensive review to assure the presence of correct patient data.
Assigns and sequences all codes to diagnosis and procedures from documented information.
Analyzes provider documentation to assure appropriate evaluation and management levels are assigned using correct codes.
Generated daily reports to identify errors, inconsistencies, discrepancies and/or trends.
Assists with performing routine audits.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS:07 - Performing technical and specialized functions for an outpatient and inpatient hybrid medical record (paper/electronic); performing quality assurance of medical records; and coding diagnostic and procedural information; GS-08 - Performing the full range of medical coding independently; assigning diagnostic and procedural codes utilizing International Classification of Disease, Current Procedural Terminology, and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System codes and applying coding knowledge to a wide range of specialty areas.
GS-07: 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level of GS-06.
GS-08: 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level of GS-07.
Education: Generally not applicable.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
