Under this announcement, there is one (1) position to be filled in either Albany, NY or Syracuse, NY. The General Schedule (GS) salary range applicable to the location in which the position is filled is as follows:
ALB: $89,515 to $$116,366 Per Year
SYR: $86,962 to $113,047 Per Year

Duties
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team as a Legal Administrative Specialist (Litigation Support) responsible for serving as the subject matter expert (SME) on litigation support to criminal and/or civil litigation teams in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) for the Northern District of New York (NDNY). Using in-depth technical knowledge and skill, the incumbent will prepare and manage electronic discovery, evidence, exhibits, and other electronically stored information relevant to investigations and casework to facilitate litigation decisions, trial preparation, and trial presentation. The incumbent will also serve as the SME providing training, guidance, and technical assistance to other litigation support staff. Typical work assignments will include:
Processing and preparing for review and production some of the most sophisticated and difficult cases, involving complex and voluminous electronic case materials and untried/ novel litigation technology applications.
Identifying and implementing appropriate technical solutions to manage complex or non-standard electronically stored case information.
Providing guidance and strategies on litigation technology applications and litigation support principles/best practices.
Conducting research, when necessary, on how to access or manage complex or non-standard electronic materials.
Increasing the effectiveness/efficiency of case teams by facilitating the use of automated processes and software applications for investigation, discovery, case preparation, and presentation.
Guiding other litigation support staff in specific tasks and sharing work samples, reference materials, and policy guidance.
Evaluating developments in legal technology and providing recommendations on adoption/implementation strategies, recommending modifications and upgrades of services and equipment, as needed.
Analyzing, developing, updating, and implementing litigation support protocols and specifications.
Serving as a liaison to outside groups, including other Department components, other federal agencies, and courthouse staff, on litigation support issues.
Developing and providing trainings on litigation technology applications and e-Litigation protocols, including preparation of written training materials.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications
To be qualified at the GS-12 level, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least work at the GS-11 level in Federal service, which has equipped you with the competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing the following types of duties: analyzing project requirements to identify appropriate technical solutions and litigation support approaches and develop project timelines; planning and carrying out difficult/complex litigation support assignments, such as processing complex/voluminous electronic files, building document review databases involving voluminous files and assisting case teams with complex database functions, and preparing complex/voluminous electronic files for production; developing new methods, approaches, and procedures in connection with litigation support assignments; simultaneously managing multiple litigation support projects (e.g., processing electronic files, generating electronic discovery productions); interpreting litigation support policies, standards, and guidelines; identifying and resolving technical issues relating to litigation support tasks through troubleshooting and research; completing litigation support projects (e.g., processing electronic files, generating electronic discovery productions) in accordance with project specifications and established deadlines; providing customer support services (e.g., basic troubleshooting and training) on the use of litigation technology applications such as document review databases and courtroom presentation software; and communicating, orally/in writing, to include explaining technical concepts, providing information about the status of litigation support projects, and interpreting a variety of written/oral instructions.
