SYR: $46,696-$89,835 Per Yr

Duties
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team as a Legal Administrative Specialist (Litigation Support) responsible for providing technical and analytical legal support services to criminal and/or civil litigation teams in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) for the Northern District of New York (NDNY). The incumbent will prepare and manage electronic discovery, evidence, exhibits, and other electronically stored information relevant to investigations and casework to facilitate litigation decisions, trial preparation, and trial presentation. At the full performance level, typical work assignments will include performing a variety of litigation support tasks, such as:
Processing electronically stored information (e.g., PDF files and portfolios, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, email files, non-standard/propriety files, audio/video files, etc.) to prepare it for review or production.
Maintaining accurate and current records regarding incoming electronic case materials and outgoing discovery productions.
Extracting electronic case materials from storage devices or downloading electronic case materials to organize and prepare electronic files.
Reviewing electronically stored information using specialized software applications (e.g., document review databases, processing software).
Copying, storing, and reviewing electronic files, including proposing software tools, reviewing criteria (e.g., search terms, date ranges, etc.), and organizational strategies (e.g., fielded data, tagging templates).
Building and maintaining document review databases to perform quality control and address identified issues.
Consulting with litigation teams to understand discovery production requirements (e.g., format requirements based on production specifications or court orders) and advise on options (e.g., format, endorsements, transmittal methods), time, and needed resources.
Generating electronic discovery productions (e.g., Bates-numbered images with redactions and searchable text or industry standard load files) in compliance with production specifications and deadlines.
Preparing audio/video files for production, editing, and converting to useable formats, consistent with litigation team/court requirements.
Providing advice, customer support, and project management services with electronic discovery and evidence, litigation support projects, and litigation technology software applications.
Providing a variety of technical assistance in legal proceedings, such as: presenting evidence or producing demonstrative exhibits; creating electronic versions of exhibits for court filings, depositions, hearings, or trials; and setting-up, testing, and operating courtroom presentation software or equipment.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

Qualifications
To be eligible for GS-07, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience; Education; OR Combination Specialized Experience & Education. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least work at the GS-05 level in Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: providing automated litigation assistance by preparing discovery productions, including scanning and coding documents and creating DVDs; assisting in the use of technology to organize digital evidence; maintaining production logs by adhering to office protocol; and providing technical support such as duplicating documents and marking exhibits. OR Education: One of the following types of education: one full year of graduate level education; OR four years of undergraduate level education leading to a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement. (See definition in the "Education" section of this vacancy announcement). Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combination Specialized Experience & Education: A combination of specialized experience and successfully completed graduate education as described above may be used to meet total qualification requirements.
To be eligible for GS-09, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience; Education; OR Combination Specialized Experience & Education. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least work at the GS-07 level in Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: using software applications and other resources to organize, review, analyze, extract, and compile case information for litigation needs; scanning, indexing, and controlling documents into a database; assisting in the preparation of computerized trial presentation programs; assisting with diagnosing and resolving litigation support computer system problems; and maintaining accurate and current records regarding incoming electronic case materials. OR Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Information/Data Technology; Computer Science; Criminal Justice; Law): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B. or J.D.); OR two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combination Specialized Experience & Education: A combination of specialized experience and successfully completed graduate education as described above may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of one full year.
To be eligible for GS-11, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience; Education; OR Combination Specialized Experience & Education. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least work at the GS-09 level in Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: participating in trial preparation and presentations; working with attorneys and legal support staff to recommend effective strategies to meet litigation needs; identifying and utilizing software packages such as databases, spreadsheets, and word processing applications to present evidence; managing a variety of computer hardware for trial use; customizing databases and programs to meet individual user needs; preparing demonstrative exhibits required for litigation; and organizing and managing case specific discovery. OR Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Information/Data Technology; Computer Science; Criminal Justice; Law): a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.M. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combination Specialized Experience & Education: A combination of specialized experience and successfully completed graduate education as described above may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of two full years.
