This position is located at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, Hines IL. (578) - a Level 1a Complexity VHA Facility and is organizationally aligned under the Education Service. Education Service is organizationally aligned with the office of the Associate Director for Patient Care Services (ADPCS) and serves all Hines and Hines Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) employees, including paid and unpaid nursing trainees.

Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to provide expert and timely development and support in the planning, development, and coordination of education and training activities for Hines nursing employees and to perform duties aligned with the programs of Nursing Professional Development Practitioners (NPDP) and the clerical, administrative, and equipment/ media needs of Education Service-Nursing Education. Major Duties: - Supports Nursing Orientation Program and works closely with the Nursing Orientation Program Coordinator performing clerical and technical work for Nursing Orientation preparations and functioning. - Supports the Hines Nursing Affiliates Program and works closely with the Affiliates Program Coordinator providing ongoing clerical and technical work by processing incoming nursing program affiliation requests, coordinates affiliation contracts for undergraduate and graduate trainee programs, works with Human Resources to ensure successful trainee processing. - Supports the Office of Academic Affiliation (OAA) Nursing Education Programs, including VALOR and Post-Baccalaureate Nurse Residency (PBNR); and Office of Nursing Service (ONS) RN Transition to Practice Program (RN-TPP) doing the clerical, administrative, and technical work for program participant processing, orientation, communication, and course evaluation. - Compiles data and provides routine reports to Program Coordinators and Supervisor, for local, regional, and national reports. - Assists with ongoing teaching, clerical, and administrative program support to Nursing Professional Development Practitioners (NDPD), including Just-In-Time trainings in the on-unit clinical or off-unit learning setting (e.g., classroom or simulation learning setting). - Assists with instruction for logistically established courses for the facility, as needed by Education Service, Nursing Education, and the hospital. - Assists with the development of action plans to improve and eliminate deficiencies identified. - Reviews technical workbooks and course materials for new or current courses to ensure the workbooks/courses are typed and organized properly in accord with established formats, sequenced, illustrated, and printer ready. - Provides technical support for teleconferencing/ electronic communication technology and equipment used for Education Service and other Services' workgroups, committees, courses, and trainings. - Assumes responsibility for troubleshooting equipment issues and making equipment adjustments and repairs within own ability and knowledge or entering work orders as appropriate. - Assumes responsibility for providing excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders in keeping with the VA's mission and ICARE values. - Assists with Education Service telephone triage and appropriately managing communications to the Education Service for information and services. - Assists with documentation related to the national, regional and local Education Service- Nursing Education programs by maintaining and updating various spreadsheets. - Serves as primary contact for employee and trainee TMS Help Desk issues and problems, TMS account set-up, TMS account password reactivations, TMS reports, TMS learning completion entries, TMS account transfers, and TMS account activations/reactivations. -Other duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/15/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience, GS-06: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: coordinating orientation programs for trainees and ensuring all training requirements are completed; coordinating contracts with academic affiliates for undergraduate and graduate trainees; working alongside Human Resources to ensure successful trainee onboarding/in-processing; compiling data to provide routine reports to various stakeholders; assists instructors and course managers in the planning, reviewing, implementation, revision and evaluation of training programs; developing action plans to eliminate identified deficiencies and/or inefficiencies; facilitating scheduling coordination for training sessions; providing technical support with the set up and end user use of teleconferencing and/or electronic communications equipment for training sessions; and, documenting required data for national, regional and local education programs. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Preferred Experience: Nursing Assistant and/or Health care Tech experience Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is mainly sedentary but requires some physical exertion such as standing to teach a class, occasional bending, reaching, stooping, lifting of moderately heavy items, or similar activities necessary to set-up/tear-down classroom furniture and supplies and maintain/repair equipment. Lifting of moderate-weight items (30 pounds) such as records management storage boxes or chairs, is required. Walking is required to become familiar with the Hospital and location of training locations and media equipment.
