About the Position: The incumbent serves as a Regional Industrial Hygiene Technical Expert, South Atlantic Division (SAD) and United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) asset. Incumbent should possess thorough knowledge of coordinating with Safety and Occupational Health professionals to determine appropriate health monitoring and protection of employees..
Duties
Incumbent will be responsible for evaluating Industrial Hygiene Programs within USACE Major Subordinate Command (MSCs)/Labs/Centers as they relate to the USACE Occupational Health Program.
Evaluates the use of the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH) within each MSCs/Labs/Centers for the purpose of delivering occupational health services.
Develops detailed reports and briefings and communicates findings to senior leaders.
Advises Regional Senior Leaders on Occupational Health policy, planning, delivery, contracting, budgeting, staffing, and training.
Serves as a Regional Industrial Hygiene Technical Expert, South Atlantic Division (SAD) and United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) asset.

Basic Requirement for Industrial Hygienist:
Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
OR
Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technicology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.

Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Managing and training others on the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-I) database; (2) Planning detailed surveys and investigations of worksites to evaluate and formulate controls for occupational health hazards; (3) Developing policies and procedures directing the process of identifying employees to be enrolled into and removed from medical surveillance programs; (4) Developing and conducting safety and occupational health training (i.e., noise, chemical, environmental, lead, asbestos, mold, etc.) or related; (5) Developing new or modifying existing health standards to protect employees from exposure to toxic substances, harmful physical agents, and other health hazards; (6) Performing workplace and programmatic investigations and communicating findings to senior leaders. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
