About the Position: The U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command, with headquarters in North Chicago, IL, is a jointly staffed command and is staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces. The command, through its 65 military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS), determines whether applicants are qualified for enlistment based on standards set by each of the services. This position will be filled on a permanent basis.

Duties

Provide administrative assistance with shipping/transportation functions of moving recruits from the MEPS. Assemble applicants, administer briefings, and instruct applicants on procedures. Interview recruits to obtain information to complete recruit packages. Enter data in Command automated system(s) to record applicant processing information. Operate a variety of office automation equipment to prepare documents. Fingerprint applicants/recruits in accordance with guidance.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is designated as non-sensitive and requires a personal security background investigation.
  • Incumbent may be required to work an occasional Saturday and/or shift work (work before 0600 or after 1800 hours).
  • Qualified typist is required (40 wpm).

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Briefing recruits/applicants on rules and procedures to ensure understanding and compliance; Obtaining data from others to verify eligibilities for employment; Utilizing office automation software programs to accomplish tasks such as preparing correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, graphics, etc. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computer SkillsCustomer ServiceOral CommunicationTransportation Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
