Duties
You will manage the community and media relations programs for MCLB Barstow as well as tenant organizations, as appropriate.
You will establish and maintain working relationships with city, county, state and national elected officials as well as with governmental, civic, fraternal and service organizations.
You will advise and make recommendations to leadership on public affairs matters (i.e., civilian community activities and programs, installation restoration programs, and environmental issues pertaining to base retention, closure and realignment).
You will write articles about MCLB Barstow's operations, programs and activities for user by the internal and external media.
You will arrange for command representatives to speak at local, cultural, educational, fraternal, civic, service and governmental groups as the manager of the command's Speaker bureau.
You will direct tour programs relating to visits of various types of civilian groups, organizations and individuals to MCLB Barstow.
You will serve as a liaison to news media and community representatives and responds to queries for information.
Requirements

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector managing a public affairs program that includes internal and external communications, serving as a liaison to the news media and community, advising and making recommendations to leadership on public affairs matters (i.e., civilian community activities, plans and programs, installation restoration programs, and environmental issues pertaining to base retention, closure and realignment), AND writing articles about organization operations, programs and activities.
