This position is located in the Office of the Commissioner for Patents, Patent Examination Policy, Central Reexamination Unit (CRU). CRU is responsible for consolidating and processing to conclusion pending reexamination requests, proceedings and reissue applications in the USPTO. These requests, proceedings and applications pose difficult technical and legal problem, frequently involve litigation among various parties, and may be subject to extensive national publicity.

The physical worksite for this position is located in Alexandria, Virginia. This position is telework eligible per agency and business unit discretion/policy.

Specialized Experienceis experience that has equipped applicants with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, the next lower grade level is a GS-14.
Specialized experience for this position includes experience as a Primary Examiner applying engineering and/or scientific concepts to the patent examining process; analyzing and evaluating unique quality issues with respect to patent examination.
