These Health Aid positions are assigned to Nutrition, Hospitality, and Food Service (NHFS), Phoenix VA Health Care System, VISN 22 -Southwest Health Care Network, Veterans Health Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, in Phoenix, AZ.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include, but are not limited to: Transport/Messenger: Transports non-critical, medically stable inpatients throughout the campus directly to assigned destinations and escorts patients at discharge from the ward to their mode of transportation at least 4 hours/day dependent on daily assignment. Aids nursing in the transport of seriously ill patients. Preserves the dignity of the patient and provides for physical comfort of the patient during transport using appropriate interventions. Transports medications, laboratory specimens, and other materials throughout the facility as assigned while following proper handling procedures and choosing the most efficient route up to 4 hours/day depending on daily assignment. Information Receptionist: Receives computerized and phone-based transport requests and responds in a timely manner to assign hospitality staff or volunteers according to schedule, availability, patient needs, etc. and classifies the type of patient and staff or volunteer accordingly. Communicates with requestors regarding unclear requests, barriers to completion, and any other appropriate information. Provides information in person about the organization, its functions, activities, and personnel to visitors and staff. Performs other duties as assigned. DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to a appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received. ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. The English Language proficiency statement appears as on the Assessment Questionnaire. AND General Experience: GS-3: having six (6) months of general experience? General Experience is any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position of a Health Technician. Six (6) months of general experience may include: (1) any type of work that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Successfully completed one (1) year above high school with course(s) that are related to the occupation of Health Technician or included study in medical, health, or related fields. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet the total experience requirement of the GS-3 level. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work is physically demanding, requiring extensive periods of walking, sitting, regular and recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, pushing, pulling, reaching, carrying supplies, and similar activities. Other demands include lifting and/or pushing equipment (e.g. stretchers, wheelchairs, etc.) The use of good body mechanics is expected. Work is strenuous at least 50% of the time. Must be able to hear and respond to overhead calls. Incumbent will be caring for patients who may be uncooperative and combative due to physical or emotional stress. He/she must have the ability to function under pressure/stress typically associated with daily duties.
