You will serve as an ASSISTANT (TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT) in the ENERGETICS MANUFACTURING DEPT (M), ORDNANCE STORAGE & SHIPMENT BRANCH (M332) of NAVSURFWARCEN IH DIV. SALARY INFORMATION: NG-03: $50,326 - $80,510 NG-04: $61,933- $97,925

Duties

You will support the safe, secure movement/inspection of Hazardous Materials (HazMat) transported on Public and Government thoroughfares. You will be charged with the inspection of Hazardous Transport Vehicles in accordance with DoD (Department of Defense) mandates. You will inspect, pack, and certify explosive material and supporting documentation in support of CONUS/OCONUS transport (Commercial Air/Military Air/Rail/Maritime). You will inspect and maintain storage facilities in accordance with local and Department of Defense (DoD) directives, and report safety and security violations to appropriate agencies. You will apply storage principles within explosive magazines and operating facilities to include segregation of compatibility groups, monitoring of Net Explosive Weight (NEW) per facility and manual inventory controls within M33 facilities. You will support a manufacturing organization. You will be required to report to the duty location advertised in the announcement on a regular and reoccurring basis. Occasional telework options may be available.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain Qualifications/Certifications to become certified as an explosives handler.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals).

Qualifications

FOR NG-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band NG-03 (GS-07/08 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: utilizing an automated transportation system to coordinate freight shipment of controlled inventory or hazardous materials (e.g. reviewing and preparing shipping documents for accuracy; inspecting hazmat transport vehicles; monitoring shipment weight) and resolving transportation concerns, conflicts, or issues to meet established customer requirements for a transportation program. FOR NG-03: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band NG-02 (GS-05/06 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: providing transportation services related to the shipment of controlled inventory or hazardous materials (e.g. reviewing or preparing shipping documents) to assist with resolution of customer concerns in support of a transportation program.
