The position is responsible for contributing to the day-to-day operation of NIST radio stations WWV & WWVB within the Time and Frequency Division of the Physical Measurement Laboratory in Fort Collins, CO.
Duties
If hired as Electronics Technician for NIST's Time Realization and Distribution Group, you will:
contribute to the day-to-day operation of NIST radio stations WWV & WWVB
operate all equipment involved in the broadcasting of standard time and frequency information that is continuously broadcast from the two radio stations
perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, and correct problems in the various subsystems in order to maintain reliable operation of the WWV & WWVB broadcasts
monitor station performance by observing various measurements, status indicators, and alarm system outputs in order to assure that WWV & WWVB service remains reliable and within published performance specifications
assist engineering staff with design and especially fabrication of new circuits and equipment leading to improved station operation
collect and record measurement data related to the signals actually broadcast by WWV & WWVB

- Merit applicants must meet time-in-grade/band requirements, as applicable
- Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment medical examination

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
To qualify, applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 (ZT-II at NIST) in federal service. Specialized experience is defined as:
experience in maintaining and troubleshooting digital and analog circuits
familiarity with common electronic test equipment, such as voltmeters and oscilloscopes
OR
Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree directly related to the work of the position.
OR
A combination of experience and education directly related to the work of the position.
