Duties
As a Electronics Technician you will:
Perform advanced troubleshooting of hardware and software associated with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and computer networking equipment integral to the automation system architectures
Perform analysis and re-programming of BAS field controller logic and supervisory controller logic utilizing various programming formats/syntax including ladder logic; line coding (such as basic); graphical programming (such as Johnson Controls GX9100, CCT, GPL or LCT) and other proprietary BAS vendor software
Provide updates to BAS database software and graphical user interface software whenever modifications to original system design are required
Assess, analyze and correct deficiencies with electrical interlock wiring, starter and Variables Frequency Drive (VFD) circuits and complex power and signal wiring for electronic instrumentation
Periodically test/verify proper operation and functionality of Building Automation System hardware and software components including field controllers, supervisory controllers, operator work stations, servers, electronic instrumentation and pneumatic instrumentation
Serve as a system administrator for BAS servers and associated networks, having responsibility for the continuous availability and cybersecurity of those systems.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level, which must include the following experience: installing, troubleshooting, programming, re-programming, commissioning, testing, operating, validating and modifying hardware and software of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Direct Digital Controls Systems (DDCS).
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to
