You will serve as a HEALTH TECHNICIAN (OPTOMETRY) in the Quality and Operational Support Directorate Quality Support Department of NAVOPHTHALSUPPTRACT VA.

Duties

You will provide technical ophthalmic production oriented tasks and customer support for eligible beneficiaries. You will maintain NORA's Laboratory Management System (LMS) data base in regard to optical lens and frame inventory. You will receive, open, sort, and distribute electronic and hard copied Department of Defense (DoD) Eyewear request forms (DD-771 form). You will dispense, adjust, and repair glasses for military, active duty/retired, and other personnel eligible for prescription eyewear. Assists walk-in customers with ordering, fitting, and dispensing of spectacles. You will perform evaluation of new optical lens or frame technology for military war fighter and active duty service members and specialty ophthalmic lenses for wounded warriors leading to acquisition of new ophthalmic lens technology.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • A graduate from an accredited optician program and/or American Board of Opticianry (ABO) certificate is highly desired.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience conducting technical ophthalmic production-oriented tasks and/or customer support tasks for eligible beneficiaries. Experience receiving, editing, processing and contacting the clinic or patient if information was submitted incorrectly. Experience dispensing, adjusting, and repairing glasses for active duty, retired, and other personnel eligible for prescription eyewear. Experience assisting customers with ordering, fitting, and dispensing of spectacles. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7.
