This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain personnel of DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is located with Department of Emergency Medicine located at Madigan Army Medical Center.
Duties
Respond on-site to accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses.
Encounter situations which may be life threatening.
Make an independent preliminary assessment of the patient's condition and selects from a variety of prescribed protocols the one which he considers appropriate under the given circumstances.
Perform the following procedures, as required, and in strict compliance with standing orders and protocols airway obstruction and respiratory arrest.
Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with AHA standards, varying the approach for small children/infants.
Accurately determines blood pressure readings which are used in conjunction with a variety of symptoms to identify the nature of shock.
Determine the causes and basic medical implications of closed and open soft tissue wounds and provide treatment.
Respond to predelivery complications, e.g., convulsions, heart/lung hemorrhaging, as well as to normal deliveries.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
- This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- This position requires the incumbent to submit a copy of their Washington State Emergency Medical Services (EMS) certification for EMT or National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) at the time of application .
- This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position requires the employee to wear a uniform, scrubs, or other appropriate medical professional attire while on duty.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience for GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes responding to accidents or emergencies involving injuries and/or illnesses, conducting examinations to obtain patient vital signs, providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and/or operating a patient transport vehicle. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
License Requirement
This position requires the incumbent to submit a copy of their Washington State Emergency Medical Services (EMS) certification for EMT or National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) at the time of application and maintain throughout the duration of employment.
Education
