This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at Madigan Army Medical Center, Department of Emergency Medicine, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

Duties

Responds on-site to accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses. Conducts a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of his condition. Makes an independent preliminary assessment of the patient's condition and selects from a variety of prescribed protocols the one which he considers appropriate under the given circumstances. Prioritizes treatments for patient having multiple problems and employs a variety of established emergency medicine techniques, methods and equipment to the appropriate medical facility. Performs thorough safety and maintenance inspections and minor repairs on emergency and patient transport vehicles and a variety of medical equipment.

Requirements

  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires a current valid state EMT certification
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a government driver's license.
  • You must possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License issued by a State or territory of the United States.
  • This position requires rotating shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Incumbent will be required to wear a uniform.
  • This is an inclement weather position. The incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during inclement weather conditions.
  • Incumbent may be required to perform call duties; work overtime to include weekends and federal holidays, out of cycle, or unscheduled training or on an emergency basis.
  • The work will require the incumbent to work evenings/nights, rotating shifts, extended hours or other schedules common to hospital operations.
  • This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel approximately 5% of the time away from your permanent duty station.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes providing emergency medical assistance to patients; taking and recording vital signs; screening patients for providers and completing required documentation,; performing medical assessments to determine patient's emergency care requirements. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Licensure/Certification: Current certification with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) as an EMT; Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
