About the Position: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Operations Specialist for the 1st Sustainment Command (Theater), at the Major Subordinate Command (MSC) level of an Army Service Component Command (ASCC).
The Command provides Joint C2 logistics and select forces in support of operations across the full spectrum of conflict; redeployment of rotating forces; and sustainment of operating forces in the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) Area of Responsibility (AOR).
Duties
Monitors all ongoing and planned operations involving assigned forces and executes established mission requirements and procedures.
Interfaces with other Command Centers and staffs on matters concerning ongoing operations, exercises, and readiness and and facilitates ad-hoc action groups as necessary.
Identifies specified and implied tasks, prepares synopsis, and disseminates to appropriate sections/sites as required.
Perform operations center administrative actions to include updating and maintaining training and event calendars.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance and access.
- This position requires that the employee occasionally travel away from the normal duty station up to 20% of the time.
- The employee must be willing and able to travel on military and commercial aircraft.
- IAW DoD Policy, must be able to obtain and maintain a no-fee Special Issuance Passport (SIP) and associated visa while assigned to a Federal civilian position in an area requiring a passport and associated visa.
- May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include overtime, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- This position requires a pre-placement medical and annual medical surveillance exam in accordance with Occupational Health requirements.
- Position is designated as Mission Essential. In the event of a crisis situation or inclement weather, the incumbent must continue to perform their duties until relieved by the proper authority.

In order to qualify, you must meet the educational and/or specialized requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes collecting data related to military operation plans, non-mobilization operations or contingency operations; and utilizing automated data processing systems to track military operation information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
