DUTY LOCATION: Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG), Groton, CT
AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION:
Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel, assigned to the 1109th TASMG of the Connecticut Army National Guard.
Duties
JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to serve as the Work Leader over a small organization in the electronics function with responsibility for the overall shop operation. Oversees and directs the work of three or more Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanics, WG-2610-12 who are assigned to the shop.
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard.
The major duties include, but are not limited to:
Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, and starts work (e.g., assigns immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led).
Maintains a current knowledge, and answers questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (for example, technical orders)
Works along with other workers and sets the pace for overhauls, repairs, rebuilding, modifying, testing, installing, adjusting, as well as the primary and final alignment of the complete integrated aircraft system, its subsystems, and components; and their contributing optical, mechanical, electrical, and/or hydraulic systems, ground to air data link radar, electronic countermeasures, secure voice, and data processing.
May be responsible for the handling and storage of Aircraft ordnance for installation on aircraft as required (e.g., Cartridge A/C Fire Extinguisher, Thruster Cartridge, Squibs, Initiators and Cord Assembly).
Checks work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside hangar area. Subject to cold, heat and drafts. Danger of cuts bruises, scrapes, burns and electric shock. Working conditions have been considered in the evaluation of the position.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 35 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing 35 pounds and over.
Requirements
- National Guard Membership is required.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.
- Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.
- Direct Deposit is mandatory.
- Must obtain and maintain a secret secruity clearance.
- Current certification in high reliability soldering techniques, as well as electrostatic discharge protective techniques.
Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: An applicant must have experience or training which demonstrates the candidate's ability to lead other NG employees engaged in installing, modifying, overhauling, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, aligning, calibrating, and rebuilding multi-system avionics complexes. Lead inspection, installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment. Ability to train, mentor, and solve problems. Able to conduct training presentations and briefings. Ability to assign work and monitor progress.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 24 months of specialized experience in the following:
Experience or training demonstrating the ability to repair, align, and adjust major integrated electronic systems such as inertial navigation system, automatic flight control, or fire control system.
Experience demonstrating knowledge of electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems in order to understand and predict the progressive effects of malfunctions throughout the interrelated units, (e.g., trace an apparent operating error in the hydraulic controls of a gun mount back to the failure of a tactical computer to integrate yaw, pitch, azimuth, and velocity inputs) and to predict areas of technical difficulty in order to assist lower grade employees.
Experience demonstrating knowledge of the application of electronic theories and practices to one or more complex integrated systems such as fire control, inertial navigation, or automatic landing control systems.
Experience demonstrating knowledge of such applications as radar, digital or analog computers, digital or cathode ray tube display devices, etc., and specific knowledge of the technology and practices which integrate these components into a total functional system.
Experience demonstrating knowledge of mathematics including algebra and basic trigonometric functions in order to adapt standard formulas to the specific requirements of the integrated system.
Experience demonstrating the ability to follow drawings for integrated electronic systems such as radar navigation systems which integrate terrain information from the radar, pitch, roll, and turn rate, etc. from sensing devices and actuate control relays.
Experience demonstrating the ability to trace the effect of a change in one subsystem to other integrated subsystems and determine which controls and devices must be changed or adjusted to compensate.
Experience demonstrating the ability to diagnose and determine needed repairs for malfunctions in electronics systems such as weapons control where knowledge of the entire system is necessary to interpret error data and trace back through a number of units of the system to locate the deficiency.
Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of and skill in this series sufficient to organize and direct the work of others.
Experience which demonstrates an applicant's ability to provide guidance to others in analyzing the malfunctions encountered, devise repair procedures and perform the repairs or, if extensive repairs are needed, provide instructions to employees.
Experience which demonstrates an applicant's ability to instruct others in studying technical data and equipment specifications to determine the impact that equipment modifications or substitutions will have upon total system operation and on the various maintenance and alignment procedures.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the work being led and performed personally.
Skill in passing on instructions, demonstrating work procedures, and providing training to others.
Knowledge of work procedures and processes, test procedures, and inspection requirements applicable to the work.
Skilled in using tools, measuring devices, equipment, and machinery of the trade.
COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training.

UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any aviation unit within state
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
