Selected applicant will serve as a Prosthetic Clerk, with the Prosthetics Department, Ralph H Johnson VAMC. As such the hired employee will provide support services for the Office of the Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) and is responsible for directing patients and telephone calls to the appropriate individuals within PSAS or other services of the Medical Center.
Duties
Selected applicant will serve as a Prosthetic Clerk, with the Prosthetics Department, Ralph H Johnson VAMC. As such the hired employee will provide support services for the Office of the Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) and is responsible for directing patients and telephone calls to the appropriate individuals within PSAS or other services of the Medical Center.
Main duties consist of, but not limited to:
Issue prosthetic devices and supplies as prescribed by clinicians to Veterans and their family members.
Records all devices issued to Veterans on their VISTA prosthetic appliance record to include eligibility and disability codes.
Responsible receiving and educating Veterans on specialty programs such as the Annual Clothing Allowance entitlement, the Home Improvement Structural Alteration and the Automobile Adaptive Equipment programs.
Serves as a backup to our Prosthetic Health Technician in supporting our orthopedic shoe program.
Serves as the primary timekeeper responsible for entering time on a daily basis into V ATAS.
Performs inventory management related duties including elements of item management, material coordination, and inventory control ordered by Prosthetics and Logistics.
Performs constant, comprehensive surveillance of inventory line items managed to ensure medical products are available at the medical center and CBOC's for use when needed by the Veteran.
Responsible for placing purchase card orders.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Position is at full performance level.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/14/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05.
The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Award SF-50s will not be accepted as they do not contain adequate information to determine time-in-grade.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience (GS-06): You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-05) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would include, but are not limited to:
Ability to interpret and apply regulatory and procedural requirements to process unusually difficult and complicated transactions.
Experience identifying issues, problems, or conditions and seeking alternative solutions based on evaluation of the intent of applicable rules, regulations, and procedures.
Conducts daily shipments of PSAS items to Veterans' homes as instructed on clinical consults.
Records all devices issued to Veterans on their VISTA prosthetic appliance record including eligibility and disability code.
Experience with timekeeping.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills both written and spoken.
Experience working with a computer and utilizing various programs to access, track and manage information.
Ability to use independent judgment in interpreting and adapting guidelines for application to specific cases or problems.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds from floor to chest level. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; or driving an automobile, etc
