Duties
As a Mission Support Specialist you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals involved in providing senior level advice in an administrative specialty area, participating in and contributing to management decisions in program areas, and applying a wide range of administrative program concepts, laws, policies and analytical methods to address substantive technical issues or problems.
This position starts at a salary of $117,962.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $153,354.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $153,354 (GS-13 Step 10).

Typical work assignments include:
Conducting studies to develop responses to management on new requirements in program operations, legislation, or agency regulations.
Analyzing disputed, interrelated information that must be reconstructed from circumstantial evidence, requiring substantial depth of analysis over a relatively short period.
Providing advice, assistance, and guidance to supervisor, managers, and employees on complex and sensitive issues.
Responding to unanticipated changes in judicial and/or administrative law and policy as well as to conflicting goals and objectives that may result from these changes.
Maintaining source of firsthand information on developments, trends, and significant policy and legal decisions in assigned specialty area
Qualifications
Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Contributing to management decisions in assigned program areas.
Applying a wide range of administrative programs concepts, policies, practices, and analytical methods and techniques to address substantive technical issues or problems characterized by complex controversial, and sensitive matters that contain several interrelated issues.
Providing comprehensive advisory and technical services on substantive organizational functions and work practices.
Developing new or modified administrative program work methods, approaches, or procedures for delivering effective services to customers.
Developing and delivering briefings, project papers, and correspondence to managers to foster understanding and acceptance of findings and recommendations.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment.
