This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Under Security for Management.
The primary purpose of this position is Correspondence Analyst in a developmental capacity, performing assignments designed to further develop applicable, analytical and evaluative skills and techniques.

Duties
As a CORRESPONDENCE ANALYST, GS-0301-7/9, your typical work assignments may include:
Independently performs recurring assignments of limited, but gradually increasing, difficulty and complexity.
Responsible for locating and selecting the most appropriate guidelines and procedures for application.
Makes minor deviations to adapt the guidelines to specific cases.
Analyzes routine problems that are encountered and resolves them.
Refers deviations, problems, and unfamiliar situations to the supervisor for assistance.
Works with other specialists in planning and conducting special initiatives and projects.
Prepares written correspondence and other documentation.

Qualifications
Specialized Experience:
You qualify for the GS-07 grade level (starting salary $53,924) if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:
Knowledge of the basic principles, concepts, and methodology used in the Correspondence Analyst position;
Skill in applying basic principles, concepts, and practices of the occupation sufficient to perform entry level assignments in the Correspondence Analyst position;
Analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions;
Skill in communicating factual and procedural information clearly, orally and in writing;
Ability to write and edit segments of reports and correspondence.
You qualify for the GS-09 grade level (starting salary $64,405) if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:
Demonstrate the ability to edit, review, revise and apply appropriate correspondence guidelines;
Analyzing recurring issues & resolve them independently;
Applying knowledge of management principles, standard administrative practices and functions to perform specific activities as it relates to correspondence management assignments.
NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.

Time-in-grade
Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement.

You may also qualify for the GS-07 position if you have one of the following:
- Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
Superior Academic Achievement: Successful completion of all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement. In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled, such as that identified in Education above. Superior Academic Achievement is based on:
(1) Class Standing - Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; OR
(2) Grade-Point Average (G.P.A.) - Applicants must have a grade-point average of either (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.; OR
(3) Honor Society Membership - Applicants may be considered eligible based on membership in one of the approved national scholastic honor societies listed by the Association of College Honor Societies (https://www.achsnatl.org/).
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
You may also qualify for the GS-09 position if you have one of the following:
- Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
You may also qualify for the GS-09 position if you have one of the following:
- Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.
