About the Position: The Safety and Occupational Health Manager will serve as an administrative direction of the Division Commander (a Major General) with the US Army 1st Infantry Division located at Fort Riley, Division Safety Office.
Duties
Serves as the Principal Staff Advisor for the Division's Safety Program (a comprehensive 24-hour a day program).
Serves as a Chief of the Safety Office and technical expert/consultant for all safety issues.
Formulates Division's safety and occupational health directives, prevention and control of mishaps, fire protection, promotion of safety education, and implementation of a mishap reporting system.
Serves as a member of the Division Commander’s personal staff and exercises primary responsibility for planning, developing, implementing,
coordinating, evaluating, and supervising the Division’s Safety Program.
Serves as a technical safety advisor/consultant to the Division Commander, command staff and senior leaders.
Plans, directs, manages and supervises the operations and activities of the Division Safety Office.
Determines program goals and develops local protocol directives, plans, and procedures for implementation and compliance.
Appraises office operations for effectiveness, quality, performance, and progress in meeting program objectives.
Takes appropriate action to improve or simplify operations, reduce operating costs within the office,
and institute changes to obtain greater coordination or more efficient operations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather or other emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has been designated as Emergency-Essential and is a deployable position.
- This position requires completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment Drug Test screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the incumbent to possess, or obtain and maintain, a valid regular or official U.S. Passport.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- This position requires the incumbent to possess or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Vehicle Driver's license within 30 days of employment.
- The incumbent must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- The incumbent will be required to DEPLOY (world-wide) with assigned/attached units for periods up to 365 days. A physical examination for deployment is required.
- The incumbent will be required to pass a military standing physical examination. A pre-appointment physical examination is required.
- This position requires military ACU as the duty uniform (when deployed, or in field environments).
- The incumbent will be issued standard Table of Allowance (TA) 50 tactical field gear such as backpack, canteen, pistol, etc., for use per local requirements.
- The incumbent must possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle drivers license within
30 days of employment and be able to maintain the same.
- The incumbent may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and/or irregular duty hours commensurate with mission requirements.
- The incumbent may be required to perform TDY 25% of the time on an annual basis.
- The incumbent is exposed on a regular and recurring basis to machines and equipment in operation, hazardous materials including compressed gases and flammable liquids, and construction hazards.
- The incumbent must frequently work outdoors with temperature extremes. Exposure to dust, high noise levels, wind, sand, and environments of fumes and smoke are encountered.
- The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain standard Army Safety Program certification. Continuous education and training in a tactical field environment is required.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
