Duties
Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

The HSP Director performs the planning, directing, coordinating and evaluating functions in
support of health services and health system research. HSP identifies and promotes effective and
efficient strategies to improve the organization and delivery of VA health care at the patient, practice,
and system levels. HSP priority areas and initiatives focus on a wide range of health care issues and
examine cross-cutting issues affecting access to and quality, safety, effectiveness, efficiency and
equity of VA health care. The HSP portfolio supports condition-specific portfolios to ensure
appropriate attention to these issues and issues affecting the organization and delivery of care for
specific conditions. Activities span the continuum of VA health care research and delivery - from
research methodology, observational research, intervention development and testing to the
implementation of research results, including activities to ensure research findings are translated in
policy and practice changes to reach the largest number of Veterans. The HSP Director oversees the
independently funded and managed Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI) which is
responsible for assisting clinical partners to implement evidence-based interventions.

PHYSICIAN/DENTIST: SR-602 Pay Table 4 Tier 2. Salary range $145,000 - $295,000
HEALTH SCIENCE OFFICER: SR-601 $147,649 - $204,000
Work Schedule: Full-time Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week - work schedule will be determined after selection.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements for a Physician/Dentist:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of Doctor of Medicine: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Licensure: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
English Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR HEALTH SCIENCE OFFICER:
U.S. Citizen
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.
DEMONSTRATED LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess extensive leadership experience in the health care arena sufficient to qualify for the equivalent of a senior executive equivalent position within the Federal service. In addition, the incumbent is broadly acquainted with clinical treatment modalities, administrative and clinical support systems and is knowledgeable about multifaceted health care delivery systems. To meet the minimum qualifications, applicants must possess all of the necessary requirements for this position, you MUST SHOW in your RESUME that you possess the five Mandatory Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) and Technical Qualification(s) outlined below. B. TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS (TQ):
Nationally or internationally recognized expert in scientific research. Typically, this will be reflected by professional appointment and/or service on journal editorial boards or by appointment to federal advising committees of scientific review panels.
Preferred Experience:
1. Advanced formal training in health care research areas - completed at least one full year of
advanced formal training consisting of a full-time postgraduate fellowship in health care
research or an equivalent degree program, certificate program, other supervised training
program in an accredited University.
2. Nationally recognized subject matter expert in health systems and/or health services
research areas focusing on issues of assessing and improving care and the health care
environment that arise in research organizations and health systems generally.
3. Minimum of 5 years' experience in progressively increased positions of professional
Directorship.
4. Extensive experience providing scientific and biomedical consultation to health care
administrators and Directors.
5. Experience in health care research policy development and implementation.
6. Experience in strategic planning, development, execution, and evaluation of large, complex
agency programs.
7. Experience in resource and personnel management and supervision.

Physical Requirements:
This position is primarily sedentary in nature. Most work performance is at a desk, in an office setting. The incumbent often carries books and papers to and from meetings and conferences. It is highly likely that the incumbent may have to travel between office buildings for meetings, which will involve going outside during various elements of weather.
