Duties

Monitor compliance and provide technical coordination and advice on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) program and policy. Conduct reviews and analysis of HIPAA compliance in order to identify negative trends and problem areas to hospital command group. Investigate HIPAA complaints and implement HIPAA privacy policies. Direct and ensure delivery of privacy training and orientation to all employees, volunteers, clinical staff, business associates, and other appropriate third parties. Monitor the flow of information within the organization and throughout the local healthcare network. Conduct studies and survey work through data collection and analysis to identify potential operating problems and recommend improvements.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing internal audits to ensure compliance of Health Insurance and Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations, providing advice and training to medical staff on privacy policy and reviewing healthcare privacy policy complaints for resolution and process improvement. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Healthcare Administration or Human Resource Management. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
