Serves as Lead of the Moon to Mars Space Weather Analysis Office within the Space Weather Laboratory, Heliophysics Science Division. You will lead and oversee a skilled team of contractor analysts and software developers responsible for meeting the urgent space weather environmental awareness and anomaly assessment needs of NASA's human and robotic missions.

Duties

Duties described below are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee. Lead the Moon to Mars Space Weather Analysis Office in support of the Director. Analyze and coordinate real-time space weather observations, models, and tools in support of NASA missions and the human exploration programs (e.g., Artemis and Gateway). Communicate and collaborate with partner organizations, missions, and leadership, such as the Community Coordinated Modeling Center (CCMC) at GSFC, the Space Radiation Analysis Group at JSC, and NOAA’s Space Weather Predictions Center. Coordinate budgets and assess costs for different contracts, ensuring complete coverage of present and planned future resources and personnel. Work with research scientists and engineers on the development of new tools, models, and mission anomaly assessments. Communicate the goals, mission, and concept of operations of the team to key organizations, stakeholders, leadership, and others. Travels to conferences and workshops. Train new team members in Heliophysics and space weather. Advise software developers and Moon to Mars software engineers on requirements for computing platforms for running models and transferring data. Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify at the GS-12 level, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level: Running models and transferring data using cloud computing platforms, such as, Amazon Web Services to support an organization's software infrastructure; Applying basic space weather concepts to assessing current risks to missions, including the origins of space weather, its impacts on humans and technology in space, and how space missions may be affected; Analyzing in-situ and remote sensing data from heliophysics missions and modeling output to provide missions with real-time space weather environmental awareness. To qualify at the GS-13 level, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level: Developing, analyzing, and making decisions concerning an organization's software infrastructure, including use of cloud-computing platforms, such as, Amazon Web Services for running models and transferring data; Applying advanced space weather concepts to assessing current risks to missions, including the origins of space weather, its impacts on humans and technology in space, and how space missions may be affected; Analyzing in-situ and remote sensing data from heliophysics missions and modeling output to provide missions with real-time space weather environmental awareness and anomaly assessment, to include, communicating results to mission operators and/or other personnel for decision making. Education

Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:

a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations.

If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
