Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the DoD in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information.
Positions will be filled at the entry grade of GS-04, full performance level GS-05.
DUTY LOCATION OF THESE POSITIONS IS INDIANAPOLIS, IN. THEY ARE NOT REMOTE POSITIONS.
Duties
At the Full Performance Level, a Human Resources Assistant (INS) may perform the following duties involving providing support to one or more HR functional areas. Duties assigned to the entry level (GS-04) will be developmental in nature.
Processes a variety of personnel actions including promotions, separations, benefits elections, pay related adjustments and changes in employee data.
Updates, verifies and extracts data from automated systems using automated reporting applications in accordance with documented processes; determines the need for corrections and makes changes as necessary.
Receives and answers telephonic, automated and written inquiries from staff and current/former employees regarding position records, training history, benefits information and other related data involving HR operations.
Provides a wide range of information concerning all aspects of the Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB), and Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) Program to employees concerning eligibility, enrollment, and basic features.
Performs a variety of clerical tasks as needed in execution of technical support duties.

Qualifications
Specialized Experience: one year of Generalized Experience of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social) is qualifying. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience.
Education
GS-04 Substitution of Education for Experience: Two years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation, or the equivalent, is a prerequisite may be substituted to meet the general experience required. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
