About the Position: The U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command (USMEPCOM) is a joint Department of Defense command responsible for processing applicants into five branches of military service (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard). The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative assistance with transportation arrangements for military enlistees.
Duties
Serve as the supervisor of the Processing Element responsible for implementing Military Entrance Processing Command (MEPCOM) and Department of Defense (DoD) policies/procedures for the processing of applicants for enlistment into the Armed Services.
Prepare schedules for completion of work; assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and capabilities of personnel.
Develop performance standards and evaluate work performance of subordinates; prepare performance reports; give advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.
Coordinate between leadership, service liaisons, recruiting service counterparts, contractors, and other operations staff to ensure enlistment processing is performed in accordance with agency regulations and standards.
Submit, review, and validate information from external agencies.
Monitor operational requirements for all services.
Coordinate and lead new recruiter orientation training for all recruiting services; and provide training to new Service Liaisons/Guidance Counselors.
Respond to queries from higher level management or others regarding operations processing.
Manage applicant files to include maintaining security of applicant personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI).
Research historical documentation, prepares reports, and makes recommendations on initiatives to improve customer support and better utilize local resources.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- This position may require routine unscheduled overtime to accommodate fluctuations in workload based on the daily mission requirements.
- This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training within 30 days of entering the position and/or as required.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Reviewing files and/or records for accuracy and/or completeness; 2) Utilizing automated systems to input and/or extract data; 3) Providing guidance and/or training to personnel on administrative/office processes and/or procedures; and 4) Assisting with the completion of projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). See note below for in-service placements.
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). See note below for in-service placements.
NOTE: One year of specialized experience at the second lower level (GS-06) may be creditable for in-service applicants. However, for outside applicants such as those without current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service, one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower level (GS-07) is required.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
