This position performs a full range of duties associated with the installation, repair, and maintenance of commercially manufactured and mechanical locking devices, to include security devices found on doors, built-in closets and vaults, cabinets, and similar built-in items, as well as their working relationship with various security systems, such as monitors, alarms, timing mechanisms, sensors and other related items located in the medical center. Position aligns under Facilities Management.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Applies knowledge of internal structures and operating characteristics in order to install, make repairs to, apply neutralization techniques to, and develop techniques for solving problems with such mechanical locking devices as mortise, rim, key-in-the-knob, dead bolt, padlock, emergency exits, electrically-operated latch bolt, dial combination, and up to 20-key push button combination locking systems with mechanical-interfacing capability features installed on doors in high security areas.
Reworks and rekeys standard type commercially manufactured and mechanical locking devices.
Repairs or replaces worn or damaged parts and components such as broken springs, jammed pins, bent discs, broken tail pieces, levers, latches, latch bolts, and knobs, or selects substitute replacement parts.
Uses a variety of hand tools such as files, picks, tweezers, tension wrenches, pliers, chisels, hammers, screwdrivers, as well as powered tools common to the trade such as key cutting machine, coding machine, grinders, buffers, and electric drills.
Conducts investigations to determine if locking devices have been tampered with; i.e., disassembles and inspects for tool marks, abrasions, misaligned parts, and missing tolerances.
Installs door closer on metal and wood doors and floor type closers on wood and glass doors.
Makes duplicate and master keys by machine.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Physical Requirements: Work requires walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally handles items weighing up to 100 Pounds. Personal assistance and/or lifting devices are used when appropriate to prevent injury. Works inside and outside, exposed to dirt, sewage, dust, grease, fumes, and refrigerant gases, Is subject to injury from use of hand and power tools, and to burns, cuts, bruises and electrical shock. May be required to wear and/or use protective clothing and equipment in accordance with established health and safety regulations and procedures.
