About the Position: This is a Medical Services Account Specialist position located in Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Duties

Determine appropriate disposition for delinquent accounts. Appropriately age and track all accounts for Veteran Affairs, Medical Service Account (MSA), and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) accounts. Provide final reconciliation of all medical service account collections and disbursements ensuring correctness. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure appropriate and timely submission of patient claims to third party payers associated with Medical Service Accounts. Compose and submit to supervisor reports pertaining to the unit's operations, including workload and production data. Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, difficulty of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain Financial Management Level 2 certification within 2 years of employment. Failure to obtain this certification within the required time may subject the incumbent to adverse action.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing one or more of the following: advising on billing procedures; assisting with implementing policies, guidance, and procedures regarding the billing and collecting of funds for medical services rendered; certifying the validity and accuracy of inpatient and outpatient medical service accounts; and assisting in compiling accurate and timely financial and accounting data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Accounting or Finance. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and ManagementAttention to DetailDeveloping OthersInformation Management Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
