About the Position: This position works within the kitchen at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Kitchen staff work shifts, an early shift (0430-1300) and a late shift (1000-1830), Monday-Sunday and Holidays.
Duties
Prepare a full range of hot and cold menu items.
Operate a variety of kitchen equipment which utilizes gas, electricity, steam, or microwave heat sources.
Follow established sanitation procedures when handling food.
Perform various cleaning tasks as scheduled.
Weigh, measure, assemble and mix ingredients according to written recipes, for regular and modified menu items.
Clean kitchen equipment and areas after use.
Requirements
- The work will require the incumbent to work evenings/nights; rotating shifts, extended hours or other schedules common to hospital operations.
- This position is designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent will have to pass a pre-employment physical to meet Physical Efforts requirements. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
- This position has a mandatory annual seasonal influenza vaccination requirement. Applicants tentatively selected will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This is an inclement weather position. The incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during inclement weather conditions.
- This position requires the wear of personal protective equipment.
- This position requires screening for applicable immunizations.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Cook without more than normal supervision. Your resume must show demonstrated experience: Performing common Cook tasks including food and dining room preparation, operating electrical kitchen equipment and various cleaning tasks under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level Cook, who observes tasks in progress and upon completion makes sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing over 40 pounds or more. Work involves virtually constant standing and walking, reaching and stooping, pushing and pulling, and bending.
Working Conditions: The kitchen is hot and noisy at times, and there is exposure to temperature extremes when entering walk-in refrigerator from the kitchen. There is exposure to steam, fumes, and cooking odors, and danger of falling on floors which has been freshly mopped or where food has been spilled. There is danger of bums from steam or hot foods, cuts from knives or machines. Work involves exposure to noise levels above 85db(A), requiring the use of hearing protective equipment. Working conditions have been considered in the evaluation of this job. Employee is required to wear any personal protective equipment as applicable to their duties.
