This position is located at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center. The primary purpose of the position is to support the clinical operations and administrative functions of the OKC VAMC Prosthetics Clinical Lab by fitting orthotic devices and therapeutic footwear and other devices, assisting with clinic/fabrication lab organization and daily maintenance, and ensuring that all work is performed following safety and compliance standards.
Duties

This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-8. At the GS-7 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-8. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Performs evaluations of the patient's needs for prefabricated orthoses which includes, but is not limited to, the evaluation and documentation of the patient physical assessment, anthropometric data, circulation, skin integrity, posture, balance and safety, and orthotic requirements;
Formulates and implements a treatment plan based upon an assessment to alleviate limitations and enhance function;
Assembles devices according to instruction and/or manufacturer guidelines;
Assists in ordering and maintaining materials inventory;
Assembles and adjusts orthotic devices and therapeutic footwear;
Uses common tools, measuring devices, machines and materials related to fitting and adjusting of orthotic devices and therapeutic shoes;
Reads and understands orthotic and therapeutic footwear orders;
Performs other duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm

THIS IS A DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you meet the following requirements:
English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to perform the duties of this position. ~AND~
This position includes a Selective Placement Factor (skill, knowledge, ability, or other worker characteristic basic to - and essential for - satisfactory performance of the job). Selective Placement Factors are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for a position. Applicants who do not meet it are ineligible for further consideration.
The Selective Placement Factor for this position is: Current certification with the American Board for certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics OR a current certification with the Board of Certification / Accreditation. Note: You MUST submit a copy of your certification to be considered for this position.
In addition to the English Language Proficiency and Selective Placement Factor, you must meet one of the following minimum qualification requirements to qualify at the GS-7 level:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level that includes assisting with fabricating, adjusting, and repairing common orthotic/prosthetic devices; assisting with assessing technical requirements of orthotic and/or prosthetic devices; assisting with formulating fabrication requirements within the treatment plan established by certified and/or privileged clinical staff. ~OR~
One year of graduate education or an internship that is directly related to the work of this position. Transcripts required. ~OR~
An equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described above. Transcripts required.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: The position demands a moderate degree of exertion and a high degree of dexterity, long periods of standing and long-distance walking from clinic to clinic. The work requires some physical exertion, prolong periods of standing and working at a variety of machines, bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, and stretching to care for patients and work on devices and appliances. There may be recurring lifting (not to exceed 50lbs) and moving of moderately heavy supplies and equipment such as wheelchairs and durable medical equipment. The position will also require the work of power tools and various machinery.
The prosthetic/orthotic laboratory work environment includes direct patient care, is frequently around new and used prosthetic and orthotic devices, machines and equipment which may expose the incumbent to dust, noise, fumes, sharp objects, and other potential hazards. The incumbent will ensure that all machine safeguards are in place and properly used at all times. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used accordingly.
