The primary function of this position is to serve as Motor Vehicle Dispatcher for the Transportation Section, Facility Management Service, VA Caribbean Healthcare System, San Juan, Puerto Rico. This position will be under the supervision of the Transportation Supervisor.

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Responsible for dispatching vehicles daily. Maintain an accurate daily vehicle dispatch sheet, gas receipts, tool tickets and trip tickets. Inspect vehicles for any damage prior to issuing to driver. Receive messages, transmit instructions, and dispatch drivers to pick up blood samples, medicines, supplies, equipment, VIPs, patients, and employees requesting transportation service. Communicate daily with staff; inform status of motor vehicle trip ticket request. Verify vehicle availability daily. Answer telephone call requests for the Transportation Section and refer accordingly. Assist in other duties as assigned by Supervisor for the Transportation Section. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/07/2024. Selective Placement Factor: Must be proficient in spoken and written English. Must be proficient in spoken Spanish. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: General experience: Six (6) months of general experience; progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have one (1) year of education above high school. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. OR, Combination of Experience & Education: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Administration and ManagementComputer SkillsCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: May be required to lift and carry up to 0/30 lbs. without assistance and to handle items weighing no more than 40lbs with material handling equipment. Required to stand, walk, stoop and bend for short period of time.
