This is a temporary position located at Isle Royale National Park in the Facilities Management Division.
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is April-October, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.
Anticipated Entry on Duty: April 22, 2024
Duties
Prepares surfaces by scraping, wire brushing, masking, spackling and sanding surfaces. Cleans, degreases and removes oil or wax buildup. Removes scale, rust, dirt and old paint from surfaces so that coating materials will adhere properly. Obtains supplies and equipment, sets up ladders and scaffolds, covers items with drop cloths and tape, and performs all necessary preparatory work.
Mixes, thins, blends, matches, tints, and tones coating materials following specific oral and written directives. Applies coating materials such as primers, paints, varnishes, shellacs, using standard application techniques and ensures that coating finish meets surface protection requirements.
Uses and maintains tools such as brushes, rollers, spray guns, graining devices, compressors, as well as common hand and power tools to do the work. Maintains records and documents of actions throughout the season.
Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker more than normal supervision. (SCREEN OUT)
Practices in Construction, Structure
Technical Practices (theoretical precise artistic)
Ability to safely use and maintain tools and equipment.
A Knowledge of materials.
