About the Position: Perform work in a military medical center active kitchen environment, operating 365 day per year, including weekends and holidays. Direct supervision of subordinate staff performing duties related to food production, food services and food delivery. Shift- evening shift 11:00am7:30pm, rotating weekends. Includes working holidays.
Duties
Coordinates menu production forecasts and ensure that the proper qualities of food and supplies have been ordered and available to subordinates for execution of the menu.
Perform a variety of Supervisory duties, such as, approving and disapproving leave requests, evaluating performance, counseling employees, participating in incentive awards program and recommending and initiating administrative disciplinary action.
Organize, coordinate and assign personnel throughout the production and service areas of the Nutrition Management Division.
Plans and reviews all daily patient and dining facility menus; reviews completed cook's worksheets and issues requests as needed.
Checks quality and expediency or work and initiates or makes necessary corrections to ensure required performance standards are met.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position will require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
- This position has been designated “Mission Essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position will be required to rotate shifts if shortage in other areas of hospital operations.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Employee frequently lifts and moves items weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. Work requires continual standing and walking, and frequent stooping, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
WORKING CONDITIONS: frequently works in areas that are well lighted but are often hot and noisy. Subject to possible cuts from knives and burns from steam, hot foods, stoves, and hot grease and water. Concrete and tile floors are tiring to walk on and freshly scrubbed floors present danger of slipping. Burns from ovens and hot pans are a hazard. Injuries may result from use of powered equipment. Exposed to steam, fumes, and odors from cooking and to extreme temperature changes when entering and exiting walk-in refrigerators and freezers.
