As a Supervisory AST Associate Chief of the Assurance Systems Division in the Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate (Code 300) you will report to the Chief of the Assurance Systems Division. The Associate Chief participates fully with the Chief of the Assurance Systems Division in the overall management and technical direction of mission assurance programs for the Division.

Duties

Supports the Division Chief in coordinating staffing requirements and functional direction for flight assurance, supply chain quality management, and internal auditing resources. Serves as an authoritative technical expert in systems Mission Assurance, providing consultation to GSFC management, NASA HQ, other NASA Centers, other government agencies, industry and outside organizations as needed. Provides administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit. Performs the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. Provides informal feedback and periodically evaluates employee performance. Resolves informal complaints and grievances. Develops work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions as necessary. Provides advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters. Effects disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. Reviews and approves or disapproves training and travel requests. Supports the Division Chief in overseeing the development, coordination, and management of Mission Assurance programs for each project and organization supplying launch vehicles, spacecraft, instruments, and software and ground systems. Evaluates and provides recommendations for improving the conduct of independent reviews and assessments and the governing procedural requirements, standards, guidelines, tools and training consistent with Agency/Center/Directorate policy. Provides leadership of internal and/or external assessments and audits; provides leadership for special studies, analyses, investigations, etc., associated with the overall mission assurance function of the organization. Perform a full range of supervisory duties which includes assigning and evaluating work; recommending personnel actions; taking disciplinary actions; and identifying training needs and developing employees. Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Implementing plans and strategies to execute assurance systems objectives and programs; Supervising or leading a team to accomplish high-visibility safety and mission assurance objectives; Managing or overseeing a team in the assessment or review of an aerospace system or product to achieve mission success. Education

Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations.

If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
