These positions are located at the Lebanon VA Medical Center, Lebanon, PA. within (EMS) Environmental Management Services under the direct supervision of a Housekeeping Aid Supervisor. The purpose of these positions are to operate commercial-type dryer/tumblers and commercial-type washer/extractors.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Operates washing machines; Operates tumble dryers; Operates small piece folders, blanket folder, folder-cross folders; Operates flat-work ironer and small piece folder; Loads/unloads linen carts; Process flat-work and rough, dry textiles; Folds rough, dry laundry according to set procedures; Maintains a daily database of production records and services for each customer and area of the departments; Follows fast paced production loads; Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Full Time, 8:00am - 4:30pm. (2) two positions - 6:00am - 2:30pm (3) three positions - Weekends and Holidays as needed. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Incumbent needs strength and stamina for performing heavy tasks for long periods of time. Must pull wet, compacted textiles from washer/extractors, push and pull heavily loaded carts etc. Is continually handling bundles and bags that weigh in excess of 50 pounds and is continually standing and walking on concrete floors. Incumbent is exposed to noise, vibration, and hot and humid atmospheric conditions associated with a textile care setting. Is subject to disagreeable odors and contamination associated with handling and processing of soiled linens and clothing. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1).
