The Joint Venture Lead MSA position serves primarily in the Anchorage General Surgery, Podiatry, Dermatology, Chiropractic, and ENT clinics but may also work in other departments within the Anchorage-Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Joint Venture Hospital. In this role, the Lead AMSA is expected to have and use a wide range of knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively handle a variety of situations and duties in determining eligibility for services and appropriate referral purposes.
Duties
The Lead Medical Support Assistant duties include but not limited to the following;
Day-to-day leader for planning and coordinating section activities to attain maximum productivity.
Incumbent acts as a liaison between the Joint Venture MSAs, RMC, and ICS staff to effectively maintain seamless operations.
Monitors and makes work assignments, provides input on performance, resolves daily workplace issues, and maintains efficient workflow.
Assuring coverage of all areas of responsibility.
Creating and maintaining employee work schedules.
Organizing the work structure of assigned areas.
Distributing and balancing workload.
Providing guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures.
Provides on-the-job training for new and current MSAs and others assigned to the JV Hospital and JV Anchorage clinics and ensures all training requirements are met.
The Incumbent will act as a Purchased Care Program advisor to veterans, patients, vendors, clinical staff, and VA staff members throughout the station.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency. MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j
Specialized Experience- must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level (1) collaborating with medical clinicians across multiple disciplines, scheduling interdisciplinary appointments, and possessing an advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community.
Candidates must demonstrate the KSAs below:
1. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources.
2. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient care systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting.
3. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines.
4. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desires effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff.
5. Ability to provide staff development and training.
6. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact if incomplete work across multiple clinics.

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary but may require periods of standing or walking however, there are no physical requirements for the 0679 Medical support Assistant occupation.

Education is not used for substitution of experience at the GS 7 level.
