This position is located with the Health Information Management Branch at the Gallup Indian Medical Center in Gallup, NM. The primary purpose of position is to function as a lead person for Medical Records Clerks. Performing a variety of duties involving technical work including processing and maintaining medical records, analyze and compile medical record documents. Serve as a link between physicians and other medical professionals contributing to patient care services.
Duties
Distributes the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization, and assures timely accomplishment of the assigned workload. Coordinates and resolves work assignments and problems.
Makes work adjustments as necessary to avoid backlog. Instructs employees and makes available written instructions, reference materials and supplies. Provides training to new employees. Reports to supervisor on performance, progress and training needs of employees, and on behavior problems.
Analyzes the consistency of outpatient records. Identifies inconsistencies or discrepancies in the proper sequence established by policy and procedures. Reviews and screens requests to release medical information form records by interpreting and applying the Privacy Act and corresponding Service Unit policies governing the release of medical information or health records.
Assembles the medical record in proper sequences and files all forms in proper sequence established by policy and Procedure. Maintains a Master control unit-number log and assigns unit numbers to clinical records. Prepares for on-site storage and prepares medical records for off-site storage.
Qualifications

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-05: Applicants must successfully complete 4 years of education above high school leading to a Bachelors Degree -OR- Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Team leader, complete and accurate process and maintenance of records by analyzing, filing, compiling, scanning, release of information, retrieving and dispatching charts and documents within a hybrid environment.
Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-5 and below,
For GS-5 level positions only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
