About the Position:
The Protocol Office is a designated office coordinating for all military, civilian, US national and foreign visitors to the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center and Presidio of Monterey. Provides support and protocol services to official visitors. Maintains liaison with the major staff agencies, other military commands and civic organizations. Makes arrangements for command sponsored functions, such as receptions and VIP dinners.
Duties
Arrange staff briefings, tours, use of dining facilities, and escorts for various groups and organizations.
Provide information for the Commandant's weekly calendars and Official Visitor Bulletins.
Determine security clearance requirements and coordinate visits with the Security Directorate.
Provide for arrival courtesies and/or honors, appropriate lodging, transportation, preparation of official programs, entertainment, reception details, and other itinerary items concerning visits.
Serve as point of contact for professional conferences hosted by the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC).
Coordinate local functions.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You may qualify at the GS-11 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:
I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service which includes serving as the visit project officer with knowledge of community organizations in order to coordinate Command involvement in local activities, plan itineraries for the visiting dignitaries, and oversee all protocol of planned visits/functions.
OR
I have a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to PhD or equivalent doctoral degree. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification).
OR
I have the specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have more than one year but less than required education described in B. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education above 1 year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
