The 4B Outpatient Infusion & Procedure clinic within the STVHCS, San Antonio, TX at Audie L. Murphy Hospital is a fast-paced Outpatient clinic. As a Healthcare Technician, you will provide clinical & administrative support in a wide variety of patient care & related activities in the 4B unit. You must possess the personal qualities necessary to adapt to rapidly changing demands on time and workload & have the necessary skills to perform specific tasks/procedures to meet patient healthcare needs.
Duties
Major Duties:
Obtaining and documenting patients' vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration, weight, oxygen saturation, and postural vitals).
Preparing patients for 12 lead ECGs using various types of ECG machines.
Detecting need for lead changes by observing accuracy of computer diagnosis and noting clarity of ECG signal at console oscilloscope.
Troubleshooting, cleaning, calibrating, and maintaining all electrocardiographs and other equipment to maintain a safe, clean work area.
Collecting labs to include the identification process of using two identifiers, and ensuring labs are transported to the laboratory for processing.
Performing venipuncture and arterial puncture to obtain serum blood samples as ordered according to policy and procedures.
Inserting angiocaths into peripheral arm veins.
Performing finger stick blood glucose testing and documenting/reporting results.
Performing foley catheter insertions and irrigations, and discontinuing catheters as ordered.
Moving, lifting, transferring, and transporting patients as necessary using proper equipment and correct transfer techniques.
Observing changes in patient condition and reporting signs and symptoms to the professional nurse.
Work Schedule: Schedule will meet the needs of the organization to include all tours, holidays and weekends.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Appling medical terminology, drug terminology and equipment/supply terminology to communicate the proper use with nurses, medical staff, patients, and family members; Utilizing knowledge of anatomy, first aid, and basic patient care to establish a rapport and interview patients to collect information and data about their current health status and immediate needs; AND Using electrocardiograph (ECGs, cardiac monitoring) and vital sign measurement equipment to report special application of technical equipment, abnormal measurements and appropriate steps to initiate for treatment.
