This position is located in the US Meat Animal Research Center for the Agricultural Research Service in Clay Center, NE.
In this position, you will do clerical tasks incidental to the research/administrative program of the National Research Center.
Duties
Review all incoming directives, regulations, correspondence, and publications in an office environment.
Independently schedule and coordinate meeting arrangements, both on and off site, at local or distant facilities.
Prepare travel authorizations and travel vouchers using the current agency program.
Participate in program planning support work such as research project coordination, travel documentation, budget coordination, agreements, and purchasing or procurement of supplies and equipment.
Use a variety of office automation software programs and equipment to edit, copyedit, type, and format letters, reports, documents, and other forms of correspondence.
Establish, maintain, and revise the office filing system.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Time in grade: Applicants must have one year at the next lower grade level to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the GS-7 grade level for consideration for the GS-8 grade level).
GS-07:
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience providing administrative support to leadership; handling incoming and outgoing correspondence; and ensuring documents are in the proper format and free of grammatical errors.
GS-08:
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience developing or changing existing procedures to enhance or streamline procedures; maintaining a supervisor's daily calendar; scheduling and coordinating meetings or trainings; preparing a variety of recurring internal reports; maintaining an office filing system; and serving as a liaison between the office and external contacts.
In addition to meeting experience requirements, applicants must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
