This position is in the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Field Organization, Plains Area (PA), US Meat Animal Research Center located in Clay Center, NE.
In this position, you will serve as secretary to the Center Director with the responsibility to relieve the Center Director of a variety clerical tasks incidental to the research/administrative program of a national research center.
Duties
Organizes the flow of clerical and day-to-day work assignments in Center Director's office; assigns, reviews, and coordinates the work of other clerical assistants as needed to smoothly coordinate the fluctuating workload.
Serves as the Center's focal point for entry, changes, and modification of CRIS project documentation and the CRIS project funding allocation process.
Uses office automation software packages and equipment to type, edit, and format documents.
Serves on ad hoc committees to evaluate/study office equipment and methods to improve office procedures to meet clerical activities.
Reviews/clears outgoing correspondence for procedural and grammatical accuracy, factual correctness, tone, format, attachments, conformance with general/special Center policies, and compliance with Center Director's viewpoints.
Assists Center Director's subordinates in the procedural aspects of expediting work of the office, including such matters as implementing Center Director's instructions concerning procedures.
Requirements

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Time in grade: Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
GS-06
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience preparing and disseminates research plans, reports, or other information to meeting participants; and maintaining the office filing system.
GS-07
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience routing incoming mail or correspondence to appropriate office personnel; attending meetings to distribute minutes of meeting; and using the supervisor's calendar to schedule appointments and meetings.
Applicants must be able to type 40 words per minute.
